What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?
It’s a matter of differing perspectives and changing times; tradition, however, remains constant. We carry forward the values learned from our loved ones, just with different ways of practicing and explaining them.
Perspective – what you see
त्योहारों की खुशियाँ तो रहेगी पर पकवानों को बनाने की उत्सुकता शायद कम हो जाए
रंगोली तो वैसे ही बनेगी पर महत्व समझना शायद रह जाए
रंगों से खेलेंगे ज़रूर पर रंगों का अर्थ शायद कम हो जाए
किताबें तो वही है बस किस्से शायद बदल जाए
कलम तो शायद वही रहे पर 2 रुपये – 5 रुपये पेन से 50 रुपये पेन से लिखा ये बदल जाए
गेट टुगेदर जो फैमिली का हफ़्तों में चार बार होता था शायद साल में एक बार हो जाए
जहाँ आपस में बैठ कर कई घंटों तक बातें किया करते थे वहाँ फ़ोन हाथों में हो जाए
जहाँ साइकिल की चाह हुआ करती थी वहाँ अब बाइक और कार की होने लगी
जहाँ थोड़े में काम चल जाता था वहाँ अब ज़्यादा की चाह होने लगी
जहाँ धूप से बचने के लिए पेड़ों की छाँव मिला करती थी वहाँ अब A.C की ज़रूरत दिखती है
जहाँ जानकारी के लिए लाइब्रेरी को जाया करते थे वहाँ अब गूगल कर लिया करते हैं
जहाँ दिखावा नहीं अपनापन मिला करता था वहाँ अब दिखावे की अहमियत हो जाए
ट्रेडिशन वही बस सोच का फ़र्क आ जाए.
The joy of festivals will remain, but the eagerness to make delicacies might lessen.
Rangoli will still be made, but perhaps the understanding of its significance will fade.
We’ll definitely play with colors, but the meaning of colors might diminish.
Books are still the same, but the stories might change.
The pen might remain the same, but writing with a ₹2-₹5 pen compared to a ₹50 pen might change.
Family get-togethers that happened four times a week might now happen once a year.
Where people used to sit together and talk for hours, now phones might be in their hands.
Where there used to be a desire for bicycles, now it’s for bikes and cars.
Where a little was enough, now there’s a desire for more.
Where the shade of trees was sought to escape the sun, now the need for A.C. is seen.
Where people used to go to the library for information, now they just Google it.
Where there was belongingness instead of show, now show-off might gain importance.
The traditions are the same, but the difference lies in the mindset.
